Torpedoed 15 February 1940, Lat. 57-09 North Longitude 12-00 West.

Torpedoed by German Submarine U50. Captain of submarine named Bauer. 
The S.S. MARYLAND departed Madeira on Feb.7,1940 for Copenhagen. 
She radioed her position on February 9th and was reported missing thereafter. 
One wrecked lifeboat was found at North Uist.
